Live updates

6:00 p.m. I'm eating rainbow nerds that I got from the airport on Monday. mmm nerds.

6:02 p.m. This rash on my arm is not going away. I always get a heat rash in the summer, it seems. I'm guessing this got worse when I went to Atlanta and Savannah over the weekend. It's just too hot down there. I can't live in hot climates. I just looked at the temperature for San Diego, and it's 71 degrees all week. I want to move there. At least it's nice this weekend in Chicago. A good time to go to the Taste, if anybody wants to go with me.

6:05 p.m. Holy crap! Bozo the clown is dead. I went on the show once, when I was in Brownies. We got to stay afterward and take a picture with him. I still have that somewhere.

6:08 p.m. Xanga froze for a while there. That was scary. Then I really would have nothing to do. Currently I'm doing the word search on the back of the rainbow nerds box. That's how sad I am.

6:18 p.m. I finally finished the word search. That took awhile, considering there were only 12 words. Now I'm reading about the Taste in the Trib. All their recommended items have meat. Or don't sound appealing.

6:21 p.m. I'm guessing buying tickets now for a trip in March probably isn't a smart idea. So my friend and I wanted to go to Italy this summer because we wanted to get away. We've been talking about this for awhile, and I had lined up my vacation and everything. We were just about to book this week when two other people we were going to go with dropped out for various reasons. So basically, the trip is a no-go. I mean, I guess the two of us can still go, but it's a little weird. So now the plan is to go in March. Let's see if that happens. But I still have my vacation days, and I want to go SOMEWHERE. Right now, we were talking about doing an East Coast trip to Boston, D.C., New York and Philly to visit friends and family. Other closer ideas are to Galena, Lake Geneva or Door County. Any suggestions?

6:23 p.m. It seems like NOBODY updates their xangas anymore. Has it become a casualty of Facebook? I like Facebook and all, but I miss xanga. Where is everyone? Start updating, people!

6:28 p.m. So the new iPhone is coming out in 8 days. I wasn't going to get it because I have the current version. I really, really wanted it, though. The internet is faster on the new one. Plus, it has a GPS system, which would have come in handy once or twice in the past months. But still, I just got this phone in October, so I figured I'd hold back. Well this past weekend, I was in the elevator in Savannah at 3 a.m. and dropped my phone. The top button is stuck inside, and it won't come out. I can survive without that button, but it's really annoying. I can't turn the screen off, and I can't turn the phone off on my own. I have to wait for it to die. Plus, this has affected my battery as well, because my phone keeps dying much quicker than normal. So yesterday, I took my phone in to see if they could fix it somehow. Basically, they said the damages aren't covered so I could either send the phone in and get it repaired for $200. Or buy the new one for $200. So I guess I'm getting a new phone. Dilemma: Should I spend $200 and get the 8 GB. Or spend $300 and get the 16 GB. I don't really need the 16 GB. I guess I'll stick with the 8.

6:30 p.m. My parents are in Dallas all weekend for my cousin's wedding. Party at the Malik house! My brother, sister and I are going to see Wall-E tonight. I think the movie ends right when Wanted is beginning, so I want to sneak into that. We'll see.

6:34 p.m. So I haven't been shopping in a LONG time because I've been saving up for Italy. But since that isn't happening anymore I want to go on a bonanza this weekend. Any good sales anywhere? I really need summer clothes. I never have summer clothes. I guess it doesn't matter in the end because, wearing hijab, I'm always going to be warm. But still, I'd like to find something nice to wear. I have gone shopping the past couple days, and both times I forgot my coupons. All those savings down the drain.

6:37 p.m. Ok, honestly, I'm out of stuff to say. This has been distracting me for the past 40 or so minutes, but, now, I'm just bored again. Why is time going to slowly? Why? I can't believe I'm wasting away at work like this when it's so gorgeous outside and everybody else is home already.

6:41 p.m. Ok, I'm done. I can't take it anymore. It's not 7 p.m., but this is ridiculous. It's a freaking holiday weekend, and I'm cutting out 20 minutes early. It's been fun. Let's see if anybody reads this. Or if I ever update it again.

The return

I'm so bored at work that I decided to resurrect my xanga.
It's the day before the Fourth of July, and I'm technically supposed to be here until 7 p.m. But there is absolutely NOTHING to do. Honestly, there is nothing. And normally, our bosses would let us go home early. But not the new one. Noooo. He's a stickler. We must sit here until 7 on the dot. Never mind that the rest of the world has the day before the Fourth off. Or at least gets to go home early. So I have to sit here and rot away. The clock has never moved slower. Every time I look at it, only a minute has passed. How is that even possible?

Anyway, I was reading a book the other day that's supposed to be light-hearted and fun. The main character is in debt. Horrible, crippling debt. That's not really fun for me. As I was reading the book, I had to go check my own bank account to make sure I wasn't in debt. I'm not, and I knew I wasn't. But I had to be sure because I was so disturbed by the amount of debt in this book. Can't people come up with less irritating problems for their protagonists?

So this whole thing wasted 3 minutes of time. I still have another hour and four minutes to go. What am I going to do until then??

Intro to Islam

Can anyone recommend a good, easy to read, short book that can answer simple questions about Islam?
My mom has had a lot of people asking her questions lately, and, while she's happy to answer them, it would be nice to have a short book that we can hand out whenever someone shows some interest.

I keep thinking of things to update with, but then I get busy with something else, so by the time I make it back here, I've forgotten what I was going to write. Exciting, huh?

Learn something new every day

Messrs. is the plural of Mr. And all along I thought it was some sort of French word. huh.
